Mary. Part-Four.

In Luke 2:48-51 we learn of Jesus being left behind in Jerusalem and his parents returning to seek him. Today when a child goes missing is causes great distress and worry to the parents. They went up to Jerusalem so that Jesus could have his Bar-mitzvah, his time to enter adulthood had come. He was found in the Temple courts talking and discussing the scriptures with the teachers of the law (Torah). These are perhaps the latter secret followers, like Nicodemus (John 3:1-16), Joseph of Arimathea (Matthew 27:57-60) and Gamaliel (Acts 5:33-41) who were present that day.

But Mary had to go through a series of worries before the events of the cross.

Mary. Part-Three.

After the birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are told by the Angel to flee to Egypt. Traditionally we see the images of Mary on the donkey. but the reality is that only men rode donkeys, Mary would of followed on foot behind. Matthew 2:13-23.

These events occurred after the wise men had visited the Lord and presented their gifts from the east to Him. Jesus was a one year-old child by now. Matthew 2:1-12.

Mary. Part-Two.

Mary was told ‘that the she would suffer many things, because of the child she had bore.’ Luke 2:34-35. This happened around the time that he was to be circumcised. Luke 2:21-38.

The baby Jesus was born into a Jewish family. Mary was a young Jewish women. We tend to forget these facts today, in light of the modern State of Israel and the sufferings of the Jews from the holocaust (1939-45). This same Jesus will one day return to restore the Kingdom to Israel and Judge the world. Matthew 24:29-31.

Mary. Part-One.

When we come to think of Mary, we associate her with the virgin birth of Jesus and the Christmas story. But in this series we will look at her whole life, from her betrothal to Joseph her husband and on  to the end, where we see her adopting the disciples of Jesus.

Mary is described as a simple girl, we do not really know her age. But in Jewish culture she was young. People married young, because people did not live as long as we do today. We know she had a sister Elizabeth, who was married to Zechariah a High Priest who served in the Temple. They were the parents of the last prophet of Israel John the Baptist. Mary was told by an angel ‘that she had been chosen by God to bear His son, she was also told how it would happen, since she was a virgin and had never been with a man.

Luke 1:5-25,  28-38.
